Can you predict what’s next in our search for Michigan’s Best?

We have done searches for Coney Dogs, BBQ, Ice Cream Parlors, Haunted Houses and Breakfast Joints. What’s next?

Watch video

GRAND RAPIDS, MI — We’ve finally made up our minds about the next Michigan’s Best project.

In fact, look for the announcement next week (Tuesday, May 28).

In the meantime, send us your best guess on what it will be. Who knows, your idea could inspire our next Michigan’s Best contest!

In 2012, we searched for Michigan’s Best Coney Dog, BBQ, Ice Cream Parlor and Haunted House.

And earlier this year we completed a search for Michigan’s Best Breakfast Joint.

To answer a few of my questions, we have decided to travel up North, and by that I mean Northern Michigan and the U.P. I’m not sure how we’re going to execute everything, but we’ll find a way.

In order to get my game face on, I visited Anna’s House on Plainfield Avenue in Grand Rapids, which we declared Michigan’s Best Breakfast Joint.

Owner — and foodie — Rean Amato was still beaming from all the recognition, telling me people drive from hours away to check out her restaurant for its signature Hippie Hash or Twilight French Toast.

Her suggestion for our next food search?

“I think we should be utilizing all we have in Michigan,” she said. “Maybe the best Whitefish or something!”

Now, that would be fun. I love fish.

What about you?

Do you think we’re on the search for Michigan’s Best Seafood restaurant?

Use the comment section on MLive.com or send me an email if you want to make a guess or make a suggestion.

As I said, we will make our official announcement on May 28, and then each market will start gathering your comments/nominations on May 29.

Polls will go up May 31.

Visits will be June 10-15. We may start a little earlier to go up North.

Have a great Memorial Day weekend.

‘Dancing with the Stars’ 2013 should come down to Zendaya vs. Kellie Pickler: Top 4 finale recap, predictions

The “Dancing with the Stars” Season 16 finale: The Top 4 includes Zendaya, Kellie Pickler, Aly Raisman and Jacoby Jones. And the winner is…..

The “Dancing with the Stars” 2013 Top 4 finale featured many perfect scores, setting up what could be a Zendaya Coleman vs. Kellie Pickler showdown for the coveted Mirror Ball Trophy of Season 16.

However, Aly Raisman fans might have something to say about that!

The U.S. gymnast-turned-dancing-star had one of the night’s oddest “freestyle” routines, which featured a futuristic theme in outrageous makeup, pole dancing and mixture of dance styles. The judges gave her a perfect 30 score.

As for NFL star Jacoby Jones, I think we all agree that he is destined to finish in 4th place tonight (9-11 p.m., May 21, ABC).

He needed to be perfect last night in order to make it the Top 2, but he finished last in the cha-cha relay and scored two sets of 9s for his two dances.

It was Zendaya and Kellie who stole the show with two perfect dances, and they were separated by only one point in the relay. It was that close.

Now, it comes down to America’s vote.

Before we get to our predictions, let’s take a look at the “DWTS” leaderboard, which includes the first dance, cha-cha relay score (2-5 rankings) and freestyle dance.

Zendaya and Val Chmerkovskiy: 30, 5, 30. Total: 65

Kellie Pickler and Derek Hough: 30, 4, 30. Total: 64

Aly Raisman and Mark Ballas: 28, 3, 30. Total: 61

Jacoby Jones and Karina Smirnoff: 27, 2, 27. Total: 56

So, it’s the Disney star vs. the country singer and former “American Idol” standout.

What do you think? Could Aly Raisman pull off an upset?

MY PREDICTION
• Jacoby will be the first one eliminate from tonight’s two-hour finale. And then Aly Raisman will be eliminated.

• That makes it Zendaya vs. Kellie!

• Winning “Dancing with the Stars” 2013: Kellie Pickler

What else to expect tonight: The Season 16 eliminated celebrities will return to perform, and we get guest performances by Pitbull, Wynonna, PSY and Jessica Sanchez of “American Idol.”

Gonzo’s Top 5: Beer and Brat Festival at Crystal Mountain, Eddie Money at DTE, Big & Rich at Soaring Eagle Casino and more!

What are the state’s biggest events Memorial Day weekend? Read on!

Memorial Day weekend always signifies the unofficial start of summer for Michiganders. And I have a few ideas of things you can do!

Have a great, safe weekend, everyone.

5. Eddie Money, 7:30 p.m. May 24, DTE Energy Music Theatre, Clarkston
It’s funny to think that an ’80s rocker like Eddie Money is still counted on to open a new season at the outdoor DTE Energy Music Theatre. He has been a fixture there for about 20 years, often playing opening weekend. “I’ve been playing there a really long time, have had so many great shows there,” he told Gary Graff of the Oakland Press last year. “I remember one time I came out as the band started playing, dressed in a janitor’s uniform, sweeping the stage. Another time I came out with a chef’s hat on and an apron.” Who knows what he has in store this year. Tickets are $10-$34.50; more info at palacenet.com.

4. Alma Highland Festival and Games 2013, May 24-26, Alma
The 46 annual Highland Festival on the campus of Alma College features traditional games, music, dance competitions, border collie exhibitions, clan tents and other activities to celebrate Scottish culture. For a complete list of entertainment, schedule of events, ticket prices and more, go to almahighlandfestival.com.

3. Big & Rich, Cowboy Troy, 8 p.m. May 24, Soaring Eagle Casino, Mt. Pleasant
John Rich and Big Kenny took country music to a new level a few years ago with 2004′s “Save a Horse (Ride a Cowboy).” It was a blend of rock, hip hop and traditional country music that paved the way for a lot of today’s country stars — such as Florida Georgia Line and Jason Aldean. The guys are back on the road with special guest Cowboy Troy on their “Party Like Cowboyz Tour.” Tickets are $40-$69; more info at soaringeaglecasino.com.

2. Dog Bowl and Hot Air Balloon Championships, May 24-27, Frankenmuth
Earlier this year I had a great time at the Bavarian Inn in Frankenmuth, where I checked out the new water park and also had one of those mouth-watering good chicken dinners. I could spend every weekend in Frankenmuth! Well, this weekend you have an extra incentive with the Dog Bowl — a variety of high-energy events for dogs — and the Hot Air Balloon Championships. They even have nighttime Balloon Glow events. For a complete list of events, go to bavarianinn.com.

1. 8th Annual Michigan Beer & Brat Festival, 4-8 p.m., May 25, Crystal Mountain Resort
Celebrate Memorial Day Weekend with Crystal Mountain’s annual Michigan Beer and Brat Festival, which features — you guessed it, Michigan beer and brats. Organizers expect to feature 99 of Michigan’s favorite microbrews, local hard cider and mead, as well as gourmet brats. This is an outdoor event. Admission is $10. Beer and brats sold separately. An After Glow Party is planned for the Vista Lounge from 8 p.m.-midnight. Crystal Mountain Resort is located in Thompsonville, in Benzie County. More info at crystalmountain.com.

UPDATE: Who won ‘Dancing with the Stars’ 2013? Zendaya or Kellie Pickler? Results here!

UPDATE: It should come down to Zendaya vs. Kellie Pickler: Top 4 finale recap, predictions

Kellie Pickler and Zendaya Coleman are the odds-on favorites to win the “Dancing with the Stars” 2013 Mirror Ball trophy. But could Aly Raisman or Jacoby Jones steal the Season 16 title?

Tonight’s finale (8-10 p.m., May 20, ABC) will feature our four remaining couples who each will perform three times!

Our celebs are paired with some of the show’s best professional dancers.

Jacoby Jones and Karina Smirnoff: The professional football player who has managed to outlast the other men. But he’s definitely the underdog in this fight. Karina won Season 13 of “DWTS” with army veteran and soap opera star J.R. Martinez.

Kellie Pickler and Derek Hough: The country singer was an early favorite and now looks likely to be in the final 2 with Zendaya. Of course, that all depends on tonight’s dances. She is being led by Derek, one of the show’s most successful pros. He has won three times (Brooke Burke, Nicole Scherzinger and Jennifer Grey) and is a two-time finalist (Ricki Lake and Shawn Johnson-Season 15).

Aly Raisman and Mark Ballas: The U.S. gymnast has been under the radar all season, but she is extremely athletic (obviously) and paired with a dancer who is nearly flawless on every move. He has made her much better. Mark Ballas has won twice — Kristi Yamaguchi (Season 3) and Shawn Johnson (Season 8)

Zendaya and Val Chmerkovskiy: The Disney star is one of the show’s youngest performers, following the success of other Disney stars who have gone on to wow “DWTS” fans. She is dancing with Val Chmerkovskiy, who is relatively new to the show (but familiar to fans as the brother of former pro, Maksim Chmerkovskiy). This is his third season. He has danced with model/actress Elisabetta Canalis (Season 13, finishing in 11th place) and talk show host Sherri Shepherd (Season 14, finishing in 10th place).

As for tonight’s dances:

First dance: They have to repeat a dance style as chosen by the judges.

Second dance: The couples will take part in a “cha cha relay,” in which they each dance to a different section of the same song.

Third dance: The pairs will participate in a “supersized freestyle.”

Zendaya isn’t lacking in confidence, according to ABC News Radio.

“I’ve always kind of thought I’m here to the end. I’m going to work hard, and it’s always been in my thought process,” she said.

Kellie Pickler is just plain tired.

“My legs, they’re like overcooked noodles where they’re just like, they’re going to collapse at any minute,” she said,

The Mirror Ball trophy will be awarded Tuesday night (9-11 p.m., May 21). The eliminated celebrities return to perform, and we get guest performances by Pitbull, Wynonna, PSY and Jessica Sanchez of “American Idol.”

Who won ‘American Idol’ 2013? Candice Glover or Kree Harrison?

The Season 12 finale of “American Idol” featured several guest performers: Jennifer Hudson, Adam Lambert, Frankie Valli, Jesse J, Psy, Pittbull and Aretha Franklin via satellite.

Who won “American Idol” 2013?

I’m not sure it was a big surprise to everyone — except for maybe the winner herself — but the Candice Glover vs. Kree Harrison battle was all about overcoming obstacles and believing in yourself.

We all knew Candice Glover was a feel-good story right from the beginning when she made the Top 10, and we kept rooting for her after every elimination, even after other feel-good stories (like Lazaro Arbos) and more marketable singers (like Angie Miller) were eliminated.

Despite the on-air and off-air drama of the judges — the name calling and Twitter wars between Nicki Minaj and Maria Carey, and the announced departure next season of resident “dawg” Randy Jackson — Season 12 of “American Idol” all came down to “the voice.”

And Candice Glover — as well as her Top 2 partner Kree Harrison, a feel-good story herself, losing both her parents at a young age, and also an aspiring singer trying to make it Nashville — had “the voice.”

Candice Glover won “American Idol” Season 12 over Kree Harrison for an incredible range and the ability to relate to the “Idol” audience.

The finale — despite all the pomp and circumstance of guest performers such as Jennifer Hudson, Adam Lambert, Frankie Valli, Jesse J, Psy, Pittbull and Aretha Franklin via satellite — was all about a 23-year-old girl from St. Helena Island, South Carolina, and her dream to be on a big stage and sing her heart out.

To her it was only a dream.

Not any more!
